GAINESVILLE — Florida guard Michael Frazier made it official Friday: He's leaving school a year early and entering the NBA draft.

The shooting guard who grew up in Tampa and played at Plant High thanked coaches, teammates and fans on his Twitter page and added that he has signed with agent Matt Ramker of ASM Sports.

Frazier says he "will never forget my time in Gainesville and look forward to returning each summer to complete my degree."

A two-year starter and one of the top 3-point shooters in the SEC, Frazier was second on the team in scoring during an injury-plagued season (12.1).

Tennessee fires coach: An NCAA investigation at his former school lingered over Donnie Tyndall before he coached a game for Tennessee, and now his actions at Southern Mississippi have led to his firing after one season. The Volunteers will seek their third coach in three years, and fourth in six years. Athletic director Dave Hart said it was a mistake to hire Tyndall, whom Hart said acknowledged deleting emails that could have been relevant to the Southern Mississippi investigation. Hart spoke at a news conference with a black curtain hung to cover a mural of Tyndall.

Lavin out: St. John's "mutually agreed to part ways" with coach Steve Lavin after five seasons. The Red Storm lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. "I'm grateful for my time teaching at St. John's,'' Lavin said. "I'm proud of our results both on and off the court." Potential candidates: Rhode Island's Dan Hurley, Manhattan's Steve Masiello and former St. John's star Chris Mullin.

Indiana: For the second time this month, athletic director Fred Glass said he supported coach Tom Crean. But Glass added, "while from a team perspective, there were certainly some positives this year, from a program perspective, we are not where we want to be." Crean's buyout through July 1 is $12 million, then becomes $7.5 million. In seven seasons, he is 121-111 with three NCAA Tournament appearances. Also, freshman forward Max Hoetzel plans to transfer, seeking more playing time and to be closer to his California home.

Texas: After several meetings with athletic director Steve Patterson, Rick Barnes has a decision to make if he wants to remain coach, the Dallas Morning News reported. Patterson wants changes to avoid early-round NCAA Tournament disappointments of the last seven seasons. If not, Patterson is prepared to make a coaching change. Key areas of change could be assistants and an offense that has struggled.
