FSU men's basketball preview

Florida State men's basketball

Coach: Leonard Hamilton (106-86, seventh season; 306-296 overall)

Last season: 19-15 (7-9 in the ACC, tied for seventh). Lost in the first round of the NIT.

Notable: Hamilton has an established star in senior G Toney Douglas, who led the team in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (2.9) and steals (2.6), but the coach will rely on youth like at no other time in his tenure. Especially with senior F Uche Echefu (10.0 ppg and team-best 7.3 rpg) questionable — he had offseason arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and has barely practiced. … Heralded freshman F Chris Singleton, just the school's eighth McDonald's All-American, has been slowed by a groin injury but is expected to start. … PG Derwin Kitchen, a junior-college transfer, hasn't been cleared academically. That not only will force Douglas to play point guard more than Hamilton expected but open the door for freshman Luke Loucks, the former Clearwater High star who had 19 assists in the two exhibitions, to see plenty of time.
