* L.A. Thanksgiving Classic ^USF Shootout, Sun Dome
Coach: Jose Fernandez (143-133, ninth season at USF)
Last season: 27-10, 8-8 (eighth in Big East). WNIT champion.
Notable: Six postseason appearances are great, but the past three have been the WNIT. It will probably take a top-eight finish in the Big East to get to the NCAA Tournament. Fernandez has three experienced frontcourt players, led by C Jessica Lawson, who was granted a sixth year of eligibility and averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season. G Janae Stokes led the NCAA with 116 3-pointers, and sophomore Jasmine Wynne, who played well in the postseason, takes over as the starting point guard. Fernandez has eight newcomers, with junior college transfers Leondra Doomes-Stephens and Sequoyah Griffin likely to make the biggest impact. The NCAA selection committee cited a weak nonconference schedule in passing over the Bulls last spring, so USF needs to beat Wake Forest and Montana, the only non-conference foes that were in last season's top 100 in the RPI ratings.
