Tampa men's basketball preview

Tampa

Coach: Richard Schmidt (549-246 overall; 521-219, 26 seasons at UT)

Last season: 21-9 (11-5 in Sunshine State Conference, SSC tournament runnerup, reached second round of NCAA Division II Tournament).

Notable: Despite last year's success, the Spartans were picked to finish sixth in the nine-team conference by the coaches and sports information directors. That's because UT returns only two starters — Johnathan Ball and Rashad Callaway. Ball, however, was last season's SSC defensive player of the year; Callaway was named to the SSC all-freshman team.

Roster: 3 Rashad Callaway, 5-10, So., G; 4 Pete Byrne, 6-0, Jr., G; 10 Johnathan Ball, 6-4, Sr., G; 12 Mounir Benzegala, 5-11, Sr., G: 20 Dylan DeFeo, 6-3, Fr., G; 21 Arnaldo Abreu, 6-5, Sr., F; 22 Rudy Jean, 5-7, So., G; 23 Fred Woods, 6-7, Jr., F; 24 Anthony LaBruno, 6-3, Jr., G; 25 Glyn Hunter, 6-6, So., F; 31 Stanley Calixte, 5-9, Fr., G; 32 Justin Harmon, 6-5, Fr., G-F; 34 Herman Kelly, 6-2, Fr., G; 35 Marcus Morrison, 6-6, Fr., F; 40 Matt Tomaszewski, 6-9, So., F; 42 Corey Pelot, 6-6, Fr., F; 44 Javon Edwards, 6-9, So., F.
