Tampa Spartans men's basketball season preview at a glance

Coach: Richard Schmidt (27th season at UT, 537-231)

Last season: 16-12 (8-8 Sunshine State Conference, T-4th); lost in SSC tournament semifinals.

Notable: The Spartans' strength will be at guard as both returning starters are in the backcourt. Sophomore Rashad Callaway, a Sporting News Division II honorable mention preseason All-American, led UT with 18.0 points, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals a game. Senior G Anthony LeBruno (11.5 ppg) also returns. Twelve of the 19 players are freshmen or sophomores, including freshman and former Bloomingdale star Callum Townsend.
