USF Bulls men's basketball preview

Tonight

USF men (3-2) vs. No. 23 BYU (4-0)

When/where: 6 p.m., South Padre Island Convention Center, South Padre Island, Texas.

Radio: 1250-AM.

Notable: It's the first ranked opponent for the Bulls, who face an elite scorer in Cougars G Jimmer Fredette, who averages 23.3 points per game, hitting 40 percent of his 3-pointers and adding 5.2 assists per game. BYU has won its four games by an average of 33 points, though USF is arguably the toughest team they've faced. The Bulls have had inconsistent individual play — leading scorer Augustus Gilchrist (11 ppg) had 23 in a win against Georgia Southern, then three (without hitting a field goal) in Tuesday's win against Liberty. PG Anthony Crater (sprained left ankle) is questionable after missing Tuesday's game. Tonight's winner plays the Texas Tech-St. Mary's winner Saturday night, with the losers from the two games meeting.
