USF-Detroit Mercy basketball preview

USF vs. Detroit Mercy

When/where: 7, Sun Dome

Radio: 98.7-FM, 1010-AM

Records: USF 4-1, Detroit Mercy 3-4

Notable: The Bulls return to action for the first time since Monday's 93-67 loss to No. 5 Oklahoma State. USF is attempting to improve to 5-1 for the first time since 2009. After watching freshmen big men John Egbunu and Chris Perry combine for 25 points and 12 rebounds against OSU, coach Stan Heath said he wants to make both a more integral part of the offense. They have a challenge in Titans seniors Ugochukwu Njoku (6 feet 10) and Evan Bruinsma (6-8), who combine to average 14.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and nearly three blocks. Detroit Mercy is led offensively by redshirt junior Juwan Howard Jr. (18.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg), whose dad was a Fab Five star during his three seasons at Michigan (1991-94).
