Women's college basketball preview: USF at Florida Gulf Coast

. TONIGHT

USF women at Florida Gulf Coast

When/where: 7:05; Alico Arena, Fort Myers

Radio: 1010-AM

Records: USF 4-2, FGCU 4-3

Notable: The Bulls play their first game without 6-foot-2 senior G Inga Orekhova (7 ppg), who had knee surgery Monday. Sophomore Courtney Williams, the Bulls' top scorer (16 ppg), replaces her in the starting lineup. … The Bulls' two losses have resulted almost exclusively from poor shooting; in six games they're 31-for-123 (25.2 percent) from 3-point range. They're outrebounding opponents by more than 10 per game. … FGCU returns only two regulars from the 27-7 team that went undefeated in Atlantic Sun play last year. It has lost to TCU, Southern Miss and Stanford.

  5. Crosstown rivals Bloomingdale-Newsome kick off season

LITHIA — In a week filled with area football rivalries, there is a game on the east side of Hillsborough County — Bloomingdale vs. Newsome — that has matured into a classic crosstown battle, complete with classic cliches.

Bloomingdale wide receiver Ed Amos charges through a drill a few days before tonight’s big rivalry game against Newsome.
