WALTHAM, Mass. — Celtics coach Brad Stevens said there's a possibility that Rajon Rondo could be ready for game action on opening night, but Rondo expressed caution while recovering from a fractured left hand.

The point guard underwent a reevaluation last week and has shown progress, but has not been cleared for contact.

"The opener is a little bit over a week away. I don't want to set goals; I just want to go as my hand heals," Rondo said.

The Celtics host the Nets in their regular-season opener on Oct. 29. Rondo had surgery in September with his recovery time set at six to eight weeks.

Stevens said contact wouldn't come, "before the end of the week.'' When asked if Rondo could play on opening night, he said, "I think it's a possibility."

LEBRON FAVORS BULLS: LeBron James believes the Bulls are better than his Cavaliers. "[The Bulls] are a team that's much better than us right now just off chemistry," James said. "They've been together for a while, we've got a long way to go." The teams played Monday night in a preseason game at Ohio State, marking the first time James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving started together against an NBA team.
