2A-9 basketball: Tampa Prep rolls into final with Indian Rocks Chr.

TAMPA — Tampa Prep and Indian Rocks Christian rolled to easy wins Thursday to set up a 2A-9 district championship clash between top seeds tonight.

In the first semifinal, the second-seeded Terrapins (13-9) jumped out to 23-2 lead after the first quarter and were never threatened by Bishop McLaughlin, winning 62-27.

Senior Ayala Wasser did most of the damage, finishing with a game-high 31 points.

"I always love when Wasser has big games," Terrapins coach Greg Linley said. "She's the most unselfish star I've ever had in my 14 years."

Latora Lofgren added 12 points and Joycelin Bryant had 11.

Much like the first semifinal, top-seeded Indian Rocks (21-4) also jumped out to a huge first-quarter lead and led by 18 after one quarter en route to a 61-20 win over Calvary Christian.

IRC had four players score in double figures led by Courtney St. Louis' 17, while Rachel Burnett added 16.

Freshman Tori Trador scored 14 and fellow freshman Kristen Scholl had 10.

The teams split the season series, with each team winning on its own court.

"All the games are usually close," Linley said. "It's like Ali and Frazier with us and them and I always expect a close game when we meet.

"It's always an enjoyable game to coach, to tell you the truth."
