2A girls basketball: Shorecrest pressured, overmatched in loss

Shorecrest's season was halted by Naples Community School 65-31 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Shorecrest (15-11) was led by Jasmine Cohen, who scored 10.

Chantal Jahn added eight.

"Playing the defending state champs, they had numerous weapons," Shorecrest coach Dave Swanson said.

Community School, which made eight 3-pointers, took control early, building an 18-5 lead after one quarter.

Community School stopped a taller Shorecrest team with a high-pressure defense. The Chargers have two 6-footers as well as a 5-11 and 5-10 player. No one on the Seahawks is taller than 5-9.

Shorecrest was rarely able to get the ball inside and struggled to even get the ball up the court on most possessions. The Chargers committed 19 turnovers and shot less than 30 percent from the field (11-of-38).

"Defensively they did a nice job," Swanson said. "We struggled getting into some set offenses, and they took away our 3-point shooters."
