Led by a stifling defense in the fourth quarter, Admiral Farragut was able to beat one of its biggest nemeses, Community School of Naples, 57-48 in the Class 2A region quarterfinals Thursday night.
AFA prevented the Seahawks from making a field goal in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead. It is the first time in the past five meetings the Blue Jackets have beaten Community School in the playoffs.
Trailing 21-20 at the half, AFA went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter to go ahead for good. The Blue Jackets held on to a three-point lead at the end of the third quarter by holding the Seahawks to just eight free throws the rest of the game.
Alvin Cunningham led AFA with 16 points, including eight in the fourth quarter. Teammate Chance Russell scored 11.
