LARGO — Indian Rocks Christian entered Thursday night's Class 2A region quarterfinal knowing that junior forward Kristen Scholl needed 25 points to reach 1,000 for her high school career.
Scholl got 26, all in the first half, to become the fourth Golden Eagles player to reach that milestone, and IRC cruised to a 78-18 victory over Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic (7-11).
"It feels pretty great," Scholl said afterward. "My family's been supportive. It's just a great feeling to have."
"It was nice to get Kristen her 1,000 points. She's the fourth girl to get 1,000. Not many schools can say that," Indian Rocks Christian coach Phil Farver said.
IRC advances to the region semifinal round on Tuesday, when it will host Lakeland Christian, a 48-45 winner over Brooks-DeBartolo.
Indian Rocks Christian also got double-digit scoring from senior forward Rachel Burnett, who had 17.
Junior guard Tori Trador chipped in 10 points, and senior guard Jami Ring had five points, including a 3-pointer.
"This is one step down," Farver said. "We have four steps to go to make the state tournament. Hopefully we can do enough to make it."
Santa Fe Catholic was led by freshman guard Summer Allam's six points off of three free throws and a 3-pointer.
