6A-7 boys basketball: St. Petersburg earns title

Class 6A, district 7

Green Devils win title on road as No. 4 seed

St. Petersburg, the No. 4 seed, won the title with a 67-64 victory over host Sarasota Riverview.

It marks the first time St. Petersburg's boys and girls teams have won district titles in the same season.

"This is the time you want to play well and we're starting to peak," coach Chris Blackwell said.

The score was tied at 18 at the end of the first quarter. Then St. Petersburg started hitting shots from the outside. Allen Wilson hit two 3-pointers and Gabe Moton and Jerry Poindexter-Brown each knocked down one during a 12-0 Green Devil run.

St. Petersburg went on to outscore the Rams 17-6 in the second quarter. Moton and Wilson each scored 15 to lead the Green Devils.
