Nugent's chance lifts Bengals in OT
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — No stranger to criticism, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton offered Mike Nugent some advice once it became apparent how costly the kicker's missed field goal was.
"I told him, 'You're going to kick a field goal to win the game,' " Dalton said when the Bills scored to force overtime. " 'Just be ready.' "
He was. Nugent hit a 43-yarder with 6:44 left in OT to win it not long after the former Bucs kicker missed a 34-yarder that would have given Cincinnati a 27-10 lead late in the third quarter. Buffalo rallied in the fourth.
Nugent was relieved to have a second chance. "I feel like I put us in overtime in a bad way, obviously," he said. "I just hit it terrible. I think I was lucky that we could get back in a position to win."
He got help from Brandon Tate, whose 29-yard punt return to the Bills' 33-yard line set up the decisive score.
