Braves suspend 2B Uggla

ATLANTA — Struggling Braves 2B Dan Uggla was suspended for Sunday's final game before the All-Star break. The team announced the suspension on its Twitter feed, with no explanation.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez called it "an internal matter. You can ask me 400 different ways and my way is that we're going to handle it internally."

Uggla has played sparingly since rookie Tommy La Stella was promoted from Triple A on May 28. The three-time All-Star is batting .162 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 48 games.

Gonzalez expects Uggla to be with the team when it begins the second half Friday.

Angels: OF Collin Cowgill went on the 15-day disabled list with a broken nose, and INF Grant Green was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake. On Saturday night, Cowgill missed a bunt, and the pitch hit him in the nose.

phillies: LHP Cliff Lee, on the DL since May 19 with a left elbow strain, will return July 21 against the Giants.
