acc miffed at fsu for leaving players home
CARY, N.C. — Florida State purposely did not bring several starters to the league's women's soccer tournament, which "highly disappointed" commissioner John Swofford.
After Wednesday's 3-1 quarterfinal loss to Wake Forest, FSU coach Mark Krikorian said it was "a coach's decision" to leave at home seven players who made the All-ACC first or second teams in an apparent attempt to rest them for the NCAA tournament.
In a statement issued by the league, Swofford called the decision disrespectful because it "undermines the purity of the competition that a conference championship deserves."
He added conference action will be forthcoming.

Coach accused of sexual assault
A prominent New York youth coach was arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a player in Massachusetts three decades ago. Ernest Lorch, 78, founded and coached the Riverside Church program, whose alumni include ex-NBA players Chris Mullin, Mark Jackson and Stephon Marbury. He was picked up at a convalescent home in Ardsley, N.Y., released on $25,000 bond and is set for a Dec. 3 extradition hearing. Lorch is accused of sexually abusing a then-17-year-old at a tournament in Massachusetts between March 1977 and April 1978. Authorities there began investigating early this year after the alleged victim came forward. Prosecutors said the statute of limitations never expired because its clock froze once Lorch left Massachusetts.

Viewing 3-D games causes problems
People who watched ESPN's 3D telecasts of the World Cup initially complained of headaches and eyestrain but both decreased over time. ESPN said its research showed the symptoms increased during the first half of games then dropped off after 15-minute halftime breaks. While they decreased after the first day during five-day tests, they didn't drop off among those who watched 270 minutes of soccer in one-day tests. It was unclear if the symptoms were related to watching the continuous 45-minute action of a soccer half, which doesn't have natural breaks like other sports. So it is not known if 3-D viewers of other sports will show from the same symptoms.
