Florida rolls to road victory over Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Egor Koulechov hit 5 of 6 3-pointers and finished with 19 points as Florida cruised to an 83-66 win over No. 11 Texas A&M on Tuesday night.

Keith Stone added a season-high 18 points and made 4 of 6 3-pointers for the Gators (10-4, 2-0 SEC), who won their fourth in a row.

Jay Jay Chandler had 17 points for the Aggies (11-3, 0-2), who were playing without leading scorer DJ Hogg because of a three-game suspension and injured starting guards Admon Gilder and Duane Wilson.

NO. 5 XAVIER 86, BUTLER 79: J.P. Macura scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half and Trevon Bluiett had 21 points as the host Musketeers (15-1, 3-0 Big East) won their 10th in a row. Xavier matched the best start in school history.

NOTRE DAME: Senior forward Bonzie Colson has surgery scheduled Thursday for a left foot fracture suffered in practice this week and is expected to miss eight weeks. The preseason All-American leads the team in points (21.3) and rebounds (9.8). FSU plays at Notre Dame on Feb. 10.

WEST VIRGINIA: Forward Esa Ahmad will return from a two-month academic suspension on Jan. 13 against Texas Tech.

Football: Arizona fires Rodriguez

Arizona fired coach Rich Rodriguez after a notice of claim was filed with the state attorney general’s office alleging he ran a hostile workplace. The Tucson Daily Star revealed the notice of claim after making a public-records request. Athletic director Dave Heeke issued a statement saying the athletic department decided to go in a new direction after evaluating the program. Rodriguez, 54, was 43-39 in six seasons.

RATINGS SOAR: Viewership for the College Football Playoff on ESPN was the highest it has been since the first season of the postseason system in 2015. The Georgia-Oklahoma Rose Bowl drew a 14.8 overnight Nielsen rating and average viewership of 27 million, up 39 percent over last season’s early semifinal. Alabama’s win over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl got a 12.5 rating and average viewership of 21.1 million, up 10 percent from last season’s second semifinal.

KANSAS STATE: Coach Bill Snyder, 78, said he will return for a 27th season with the Wildcats.

NORTHWESTERN: Quarterback Clayton Thorson has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that throws his college career and NFL timeline up in the air. He plans to have surgery in mid January. There is no timetable for his return.

OREGON STATE: Running back Ryan Nall will declare for the NFL draft with a year of eligibility remaining. He is eighth on the school list with 2,216 career rushing yards.
