Photos, video: FIU, Temple compete in lawn mower race at Busch Gardens

Members of the Florida International University and Temple football teams participated in a lawn mower race Monday at Busch Gardens as part of the festivities leading up to Thursday’s Gasparilla Bowl at Tropicana Field.

Head coaches Butch Davis of FIU and Geoff Collins of Temple each "drafted" a team of drivers (sports celebrities, media personalities, one of their coaches and one of their players) to navigate a course at Gwazi Field in what was called the Bad Boy Mowers race.

FIU center and Gaither High School alum Shane McGough was carried off the field on the shoulders of his teammates after winning the championship race.

Times photojournalist James Borchuck was on scene to capture the action, which was part of the teams’ day at the amusement park.
