FSU (0-1) vs. Jacksonville State (0-1), 6 p.m., 1040-AM
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks aren't your typical Division I-AA lightweight. How many of their peers have a QB who was the MVP of the 2007 SEC championship game? Or a DT who made one of the biggest plays for the Florida Gators in the 2009 BCS finale against Oklahoma, former Armwood star Torrey Davis? QB Ryan Perrilloux helped put LSU in the BCS title game it would win against Ohio State. The mercurial Perrilloux, who sat out last week's 37-17 loss at Georgia Tech for a violation of team rules, is back and wouldn't mind reminding his old position coach, Jimbo Fisher, just what made him USA Today's national offensive player of the year as a prep senior. Fisher, who shared some information on his former pupil with the Jacksonville State coaches when Perrilloux was looking for a new school, said Perriloux "makes a lot of plays out of the pocket and has a real strong arm." In case you missed it, FSU's young defense struggled just a tad against Miami's QB who can get out of the pocket and has a strong arm.
Watch out for ...
FSU coach Bobby Bowden has reminded his players not to overlook a I-AA school, after all, two ACC teams (Duke and Virginia) lost their season openers to I-AAs. "I guarantee you I'll bring that to their attention because now the big thing you're doing in our situation is, avoid the upset. That's my motto this week, avoid the upset."
