TALLAHASSEE — Though he hasn't played in Florida State's last two games, backup QB D'Vontrey Richardson appears to be returning to early season form.

Richardson, who accounted for nearly 400 yards and five touchdowns in the first three games, dropped to third string after missing practice time with an illness. But he threw two touchdowns during 11-on-11 drills Sunday and has taken reps at tailback.

Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said Richardson has improved his play in practice.

"He made some real nice plays," Fisher said. "He was at running back with a few guys banged (up)."

FSU held the rare Sunday practice because it plays Thursday night at N.C. State. FSU will have a physical practice today and a walk-through Tuesday before departing for Raleigh.

UM: Marve confident

CORAL GABLES — Miami QB Robert Marve said he will rebound from a shaky performance in Saturday's 20-14 win over UCF.

"You're going to go through learning experiences," said the former Plant standout, who was 8-for-19 with three interceptions. "It's not going to be a freshman year of just joyrides every game. You're going to go through ups and downs — just when you're down, you've got to get back up."

Coach Randy Shannon was asked after the game and again Sunday morning if he would consider replacing Marve with Jacory Harris as the starter. He didn't hesitate either time: "Nope.''

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
