Background: Louis "Skip" Holtz, son of former Notre Dame coach and current ESPN analyst Lou Holtz. … Played one season at Notre Dame; earned business management degree in 1986. … At East Carolina, won back-to-back Conference USA titles (2008-09); in 2008 knocked off No. 17 Virginia Tech and No. 8 West Virginia, earning reputation as BCS-conference killer; coached RB Chris Johnson at ECU, just voted NFL's offensive player of the year and the only unanimous Pro Bowl selection. … In last season as Connecticut coach (1998), led Huskies to school-record 10 wins and quarterfinal round of I-AA playoffs; ranked 11th nationally in scoring offense (nearly 36 points per game). … Assistant coaching stops included FSU under Bobby Bowden, 1987-88.

    INDIANAPOLIS — Sebastien Bourdais was in one of the best race cars he'd ever had, so fast that most of his competitors thought he would win the pole for the Indianapolis 500.

    Sebastien Bourdais does physical therapy at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis. Bourdais broke his pelvis, hip and two ribs in an accident during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 on May 20. He plans to return home to St. Petersburg soon to continue therapy. [Associated Press]
