New Mexico

Who: Washington State (6-6, 4-5 Pac-12) vs. Colorado State (7-6, 5-3 Mountain West)

When/where: 2; Albuquerque, N.M.

TV/radio: ESPN; 1250-AM

Line: Washington State by 5

Notable: Colorado State is the only team in Division I-A to boast a 3,000-yard passer (Garrett Grayson) and a 1,500-yard runner (Kapri Bibbs). The Rams broke a school record when they recorded 500-plus yards of total offense in seven games in a single season. … The Cougars run a spread offense with QB Connor Halliday, whose 4,189 passing yards is fourth in I-A. … Both teams struggle with their pass defenses so expect a lot of points.

Las Vegas

Who: No. 21 Fresno State (11-1, 7-1 Mountain West) vs. Southern Cal (9-4, 6-3 Pac-12)

When/where: 3:30; Las Vegas

TV/radio: Ch. 28; 98.7-FM

Line: USC by 6

Notable: Fresno State QB Derek Carr leads Division I-A in total offense, TD passes, total yards passing, yards passing per game and completions per game. LB Ejiro Ederaine has 10 sacks and 15½ tackles for loss this season. … Trojans WR Marqise Lee needs 12 catches to pass Robert Woods for the school's career receptions record. Only 13 I-A schools allowed fewer than the Trojans defense's 21.3 points per game.

Idaho Potato

Who: Buffalo (8-4, 6-2 MAC) vs. San Diego State (7-5, 6-2 Mountain West)

When/where: 5:30; Boise, Idaho

TV/radio: ESPN; 1250-AM

Line: San Diego State by 1

Notable: In 26 career starts, San Diego State RB Adam Muema has run for 100 yards or more 13 times. Quinn Kaehler has completed 60.1 percent of his passes and thrown 17 TDs against nine interceptions. … The Buffalo secondary has excelled at picking off opposing quarterbacks, recording 15 interceptions. LB Kahlil Mack needs one more tackle for loss to set an NCAA record, and he holds the NCAA record for forced fumbles in a career with 16. … In its 119-year history, Buffalo has never won a bowl game. Today is its second postseason appearance.

New Orleans

Who: Tulane (7-5, 5-3 C-USA) vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (8-4, 5-2 Sun Belt)

When/where: 9; New Orleans

TV/radio: ESPN; 620-AM

Line: Tulane by 1½

Notable: Lafayette's running game averages 207.6 yards. RBs Alonzo Harris and Elijah McGuire have combined for 1,706 yards rushing and 20 TDs this season. … Tulane's defense yields 119.2 yards rushing per game, which ranks 16th in Division I-A. Tulane QB Nick Montana, son of Hall of Fame QB Joe Montana, has been banged up most of the season.

    TAMPA — The Bucs got good news Sunday on starting right tackle Demar Dotson, whose MRI exam showed only a mild right groin sprain and who should be back at practice next week.

  4. Bucs counting on better health creating better pass rush


    TAMPA — Ask Bucs coaches about the improved depth and health of their defensive line, and they'll look around for a piece of wood to knock on.

    Retired All-Pro defensive end  Simeon Rice, right, the last Buc to have double-digit sacks in a season,  works with defensive end Ryan Russell, who last season was promoted from the practice squad for the second half of the year as injuries piled up. He is competing for a backup job this year.

    ST. PETERSBURG — RHP Jacob Faria made the trek he didn't want to take after his last start. It was to the trainer's room. The pain in his left abdominal went from nagging to an issue during his start that night in Toronto.
