College football in a snap: Freshman QBs, Irma and Bigfoot

Freshman debuts

With Jacob Eason injured, Georgia's Jake Fromm will be the latest true freshman to start at quarterback for a major program. A look at how other recent true freshmen fared in their first starts:

Brad Kaaya, Miami: 17-of-29, one touchdown, two interceptions in a 31-13 loss at Louisville

Josh Rosen, UCLA: 28-of-35, three touchdowns in a 34-16 win over Virginia

Jalen Hurts, Alabama: 23-of-36 for 287 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-10 win over Western Kentucky

Deshaun Watson, Clemson: Threw a school-record six touchdown passes in a 50-35 win over North Carolina

Lamar Jackson, Louisville: 17-of-27, two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing), two interceptions in a 34-31 loss to Houston

Hurricane Irma

Games affected by Hurricane Irma:

No. 21 USF at UConn: Canceled

Louisiana-Monroe at No. 10 FSU: Canceled

Memphis at UCF: Canceled

Alcorn State at Florida International: Moved from Saturday to Friday and from Miami to Birmingham's (Ala.) Legion Field

New Hampshire at Georgia Southern: Moved to Legion Field

No. 16 Miami at Arkansas State: Canceled

Northern Colorado at No. 22 UF: Canceled

Eye on the NFL draft

Oklahoma OT Orlando Brown has first-round talent, but so do several Ohio State defensive linemen (including ends Tyquan Lewis and Sam Hubbard). This matchup will shape some NFL fortunes in addition to a top-10 showdown with College Football Playoff ramifications.

Audible

"It'd be fun if there's Bigfoot. I hope there's Bigfoot. But my guess is there's not." — Washington State coach Mike Leach, in response to a student question about Sasquatch

By the numbers

51.5 Average points per game for Oregon coach (and former USF coach) Willie Taggart since 2015. That's tops in the country

11 Consecutive wins for Oklahoma (the longest streak in the country). The Sooners' last loss? To Ohio State last year

4 Consecutive losses for coach Lane Kiffin against ranked teams. His Florida Atlantic team travels to No. 9 Wisconsin

South Florida Sun-Sentinel

14-6 Boise State's record against Power Five teams before tonight's game against No. 20 Washington State

41-4 Arkansas coach Bret Bielema's non-conference record in 12 seasons before facing No. 23 TCU

Cardinal upset?

Stanford has won seven of its last nine game against USC, so don't be surprised if the Cardinal knocks off the Trojans tonight. Western Michigan had four tackles for a loss last week on USC, and Stanford always seems to have a great defense. Seven different players had a tackle for a loss in the opener, and the Cardinal leads the country with 279 sacks since David Shaw took over in 2011.
