College football preview: USF vs. SMU, 7 Saturday, 98.7-FM, 1010-AM

USF vs. SMU, 7, 98.7-FM, 1010-AM

Before kickoff, the Bulls (2-7, 2-3 American Athletic) will honor 17 seniors and their families. Southern Methodist (4-5, 3-2), which likely will throw at least 50 times, sets up the long pass with the short one and ranks 20th in Division I-A in total offense (481.6 yards per game). USF, which allowed only 242 yards in last week's 23-10 loss to Memphis, is 31st in total defense (364.2 ypg). However, the Bulls have totaled 28 penalties in their past two games.

Watch out for … SMU senior QB Garrett Gilbert, a Texas transfer who leads I-A in total offense (405.7 ypg). His top two receivers, senior Jeremy Johnson and sophomore Darius Joseph, average more than eight catches a game. Bulls WR Andre Davis is coming off back-to-back 100-yard receiving games. Despite a rough outing (four interceptions) against Memphis, freshman QB Mike White remains the Bulls' starter, but coach Willie Taggart said mobile backup Steven Bench could be used in certain packages.

  5. Remember that famous Fred McGriff TV commercial? He's back, in a parody

If you've ever seen Fred McGriff's TV commerical for Tom Emanski's Defensive Drills video it will always be fresh in your mind, with the deadpan delivery and famously ill-fitting cap.
