Must-see and meh time frames Saturday for college football:

Lamest time window: Late. The 8 p.m. games aren't great, so don't feel bad about calling it an early night.

Noon: How will the No. 12 'Noles look after two open weekends, against sneaky N.C. State?

3:30: Unless Vanderbilt somehow hangs with No. 1 Alabama, the best matchup is a potential shootout between No. 16 TCU and No. 6 Oklahoma State.

7: The top dog between No. 17 Mississippi State and No. 11 Georgia might just be the best non-'Bama team in the SEC.

7:30: No. 20 Florida can't keep beating Kentucky forever … right?

8: Two potential top-25 teams (Michigan State and Notre Dame) battle for the Megaphone Trophy.

Five upset alerts

• Toledo's top-20 offense could scare a No. 14 Miami defense that could be rusty and winded after 20 days off.

• No. 4 Penn State looks great so far, but Michigan was excellent last year, too … until losing at Iowa in prime time.

• No. 6 USC isn't the only undefeated team in its matchup. Cal is one of the country's biggest surprises, plus gets homefield advantage.

• Purdue has been better than expected under new coach Jeff Brohm. No. 8 Michigan hasn't looked great and hasn't yet faced an offense this potent.

• Vanderbilt has the SEC's most efficient passer (Kyle Shurmur) and the nation's No. 1 scoring defense. Is that enough to topple the Tide?
