Linebacker Ukeme Eligwe, a highly touted member of Florida State's 2012 recruiting class who was dismissed from the program last year for violating unspecified team rules, is headed to Georgia Southern, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Eligwe's coach at Stone Mountain (Ga.) High said his former player is applying for a waiver that would grant him immediate eligibility. If the waiver is granted, Eligwe would play for the Eagles this year and have two seasons of eligibility remaining. If denied, he would have one year left.

Eligwe was rated the No. 2 outside linebacker in the country out of high school, according to Rivals. After redshirting as a true freshman, Eligwe played in 13 games during the Seminoles' run to the 2013 BCS title. He played in two games last year before being injured, then was later dismissed from the team.

EX-GATOR TO USC: Daniel Imatorbhebhe, part of Florida's 2015 recruiting class and rated as the No. 18 tight end in the country out of high school by Rivals, said he's transferring to USC. He will not be eligible to play this year but will have four years of eligibility remaining. The former North Gwinnett (Ga.) High standout signed with the Gators in February and was an early enrollee who participated in spring practice. But he decided last month to leave UF for what he's now calling "personal reasons." Imatorbhebhe's brother, four-star receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe, was interested in Florida before committing to USC. That verbal commitment came a week before reports surfaced that his brother was leaving UF.

CLEMSON: Left tackle Isaiah Battle is leaving for the NFL's supplemental draft. Battle played 27 games, starting 16, including 11 of 12 last year. "I have some family matters to address, with a child due this summer, and I feel it is in my best interest to enter the NFL supplemental draft," Battle said in a team statement."

KENTUCKY: Jamal Murray, a 6-foot-5 guard, has verbally committed and will reclassify into the 2015 class in order to enroll at the school in the fall. Murray, who played at Orangeville Prep in Canada and is rated a five-star basketball recruit by Rivals and ranked No. 15 overall, was in the mix by several schools but only visited the Wildcats and Oregon.

N.C. GREENSBORO: The athletic programs received two years probation after improperly certifying the initial eligibility of 57 athletes in 13 sports over six seasons. The NCAA and the school announced the penalties, which include vacating wins in which ineligible players participated and paying a $5,000 fine.

SYRACUSE: Basketball assistant Mike Hopkins has been formally given the title of head coach designate to succeed Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim after the 2017-18 season. A former Orange captain, Hopkins has served on Boeheim's staff for 19 seasons. In March, Boeheim, 70, announced that he will retire in three years.

LATE WEDNESDAY: Pavin Smith homered and drove in three and Brandon Waddell turned in another strong College World Series pitching performance, leading Virginia over Vanderbilt 4-2 for the school's first baseball national championship and the ACC's first title in the sport since Wake Forest in 1955.
