Florida Gators AD: Muschamp status won't be evaluated til end of season

GAINESVILLE — Coach Will Muschamp's job status won't be determined by one or two games but by his body of work this season, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said Friday.

"You never judge or evaluate a program based on one game or one season,'' Foley said on Open Mike on 790-AM The Game in Orlando. "That's just not how we do things here. We're going to evaluate where we're headed, where the players are, how is recruiting going, what type of staff do we have, are we better? That's going to be plain for all of us to see, but it's also going to be played out over the course of 11 games, and we'll see where we are when we get to the end of the season."

UF (2-1, 1-1 SEC) was 4-8 last season and 1-6 in the league dating to last season, including last weekend's 42-21 loss at Alabama. Florida plays Oct. 4 at Tennessee.

Muschamp said Wednesday that he is sticking with struggling junior quarterback Jeff Driskel.

USF: The Bulls will play a home-and-home series with Northern Illinois, hosting on Sept. 10, 2016, and visiting Dekalb, Ill., on Sept. 23 the next year.

Recruiting: Josh Sweat, the top-rated overall prospect in the 2015 ESPN 300, will miss the remainder of his high school team's season after dislocating his left knee. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect who played defensive end and receiver at Oscar Frommel Smith in Chesapeake, Va., was hurt in a game Sept. 19. An MRI exam revealed ligament damage, espn.com reported. Sweat visited Ohio State on Sept. 6 and was slated to visit Virginia Tech last weekend before the injury. His Oct. 17 visit to Florida State and Oct. 31 visit to Oregon remain scheduled, espn.com reported.

Late Thursday: Ishmael Adams returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and an interception 95 yards for another score, sparking No. 11 UCLA's 62-27 trouncing of No. 15 Arizona State. The visiting Bruins (4-0, 1-0) turned a matchup of the past two Pac-12 South champions into a rout, scoring 28 during a seven-minute span of the second and third quarters. Brett Hundley returned from a left arm injury to throw for 355 yards and four touchdowns against the Sun Devils (3-1, 1-1).
