GAINESVILLE — Florida junior WR Latroy Pittman returned to the field Wednesday, four days after he was hospitalized for a series of tests he had after he was injured in a collision with an LSU defender in the waning seconds of Saturday night's 30-27 loss to the Tigers.

Coach Will Muschamp said Pittman might be "limited a little bit" but was cleared to practice.

DT Leon Orr also practiced. The former Gulf High standout missed the past two games after having arthroscopic surgery on his knee. "I feel like depending on how he looks today, we should get him back (for Saturday against Missouri)," Muschamp said.

USF: Who to blame?

TAMPA — While coach Willie Taggart suggests the root of USF's second-half funks lies between his players' ears, defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan has been looking elsewhere.

Primarily, in the mirror.

Bresnahan said he has been taking his unit's second-half woes personally, assuming blame for not always being in the proper run fits or executing coverage schemes during their two-game skid. Wisconsin and East Carolina both totaled more than 300 second-half yards against the Bulls.

"When you come out in the first series of the second half and you've got (ECU) at first and 30 and then first and 20 in the first drive, and then they score a touchdown, that's unacceptable," Bresnahan said.

"And I start with myself, 'What can we do better to get our guys to come out of the locker room and play with the same intensity?' Because they played lights-out for the first half in Wisconsin, lights-out for the first half last week, then we give up a series of plays."

odds and ends: All three banged-up defensive starters -— CB Chris Dunkley (shoulder) OLB Reshard Cliett (shoulder) and WLB Nigel Harris (ankle) — suited up for practice. … Two walk-on quarterbacks, Purdue transfer Austin Parker and Ocala Vanguard alumnus Adam Robles, were added to the roster. Robles threw six TD passes against crosstown rival Forest as a junior, breaking a school mark held by Daunte Culpepper.

UM: Two out for year

CORAL GABLES — Miami K Matt Goudis (sidelined since the second game with a back injury) and long snapper Ronald Regula (right leg, sustained last week) are out for the remainder of the season. Both require surgery.

UCF: Promising time

ORLANDO — UCF players insist their only focus right now is beating Tulane. But Saturday's home game starts a string of weak opponents that makes it hard not to project about the possibilities of a prominent bowl.

Aside from Temple, four of UCF's next five opponents have losing records. Tulane, UConn, Tulsa and SMU are a collective 4-19. Temple, USF and East Carolina pose the biggest threats to UCF's remaining schedule.

"These next seven games are very crucial, and we just have to take each game just one at a time and one season at a time," said WR Jackie Williams.
