GAINESVILLE — Florida starting cornerback Loucheiz Purifoy and reserve defensive lineman Darious Cummings were suspended for Saturday's season opener against Toledo for an undisclosed violation of team rules.

The Gainesville Sun reported three other players, all reserves — freshman defensive tackle Jay-nard Bostwick, sophomore receiver Latroy Pittman and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Quinteze Williams — also were suspended.

The university would not comment on the suspensions.

On Wednesday, Gators coach Will Muschamp said only one player, sophomore linebacker Antonio Morrison, would miss the game due to suspension (offseason arrests).

But that changed Friday.

Purifoy, a junior, has been heralded throughout the preseason as the Gators prepared to use him on defense, special teams and as a receiver on offense. Senior Jaylen Watkins is now listed on the depth chart as a co-starter at cornerback with Purifoy.

Purifoy played in all 13 games last season, starting 12, and finished fourth on the team in tackles with 51.

Cummings, a junior, spent his first two seasons at Florida State before transferring to East Mississippi Community College in 2012.
