Pinellas Park defensive lineman Jordon Scott grew up a fan of the Florida Gators, especially quarterback Tim Tebow. Now he has a chance to play in the Swamp.

Scott, 6 feet 3, 348 pounds, orally committed to Florida on Wednesday night. He also had offers from Florida State, Mississippi, Tennessee and North Carolina, among others.

"When I went to their camp in the summer and got to work out in the Swamp, I knew that's where I wanted to go," Scott said. "I wanted to look at other schools and talk to other coaches, but in the back of my mind I always knew it would be Florida. I'm excited. When all this first started, I never thought I'd be and SEC player."

Scott had 84 total tackles and nine sacks as a junior. He is considered a three-star recruit and the state's No. 138 player, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. A 4.0 student, Scott said he plans to graduate from high school in December and enroll at Florida in January.

Scott is the second Patriot to commit to Florida in the past four years. Linebacker Jeremi Powell was with the Gators for four seasons before deciding not to return to the team this season for his redshirt senior year.

"Florida is getting a good one," Pinellas Park coach Kenny Crawford said of Scott. "He works his butt off every day to get better, and he does the same in the classroom."

Oral commitments are nonbinding until recruits sign letters of intent during their senior years.
