Marquel Blackwell was Freedom High coach in ’07-08.

Former USF quarterback Marquel Blackwell, who holds most of the school's career passing records, will return to the Bulls in the fall as a program assistant, working under offensive coordinator Mike Canales.

Blackwell, 30, a former Dixie Hollins High standout who played for USF from 1999-2002, holds the school marks for touchdowns (67) and passing yards (9,108). Senior Matt Grothe will challenge those records this season.

Blackwell, who played under Canales during his first coaching stint with the Bulls, most recently coached at Freedom High, where he was head coach in 2007-08. He resigned in January, one week after he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.

TICKETS ON SALE: Individual tickets for USF's home games against I-AA Wofford on Sept. 5 and Charleston Southern on Sept. 19 are on sale. Tickets start at $10 and are available at ticketmaster.com. Go to USF's Web site, gousfbulls.com, for information.
