DELAND — East Lake High grad Rob Coggin caught both of quarterback Ryan Tentler's touchdown passes and Stetson routed Warner 31-3 Sunday in the completion of a game suspended Saturday because of lightning.
It was the Hatters' first football game since 1956, and it was Warner's first in school history. Saturday's game was halted with Stetson ahead 10-3 in the second quarter.
Tentler completed 14 of 24 passes for 169 yards and led the Hatters in rushing with 62 yards on seven carries. Coggin had six catches for 85 yards, including touchdown grabs of 7 and 32 yards.
"This win is great for the program and great for the kids," coach Roger Hughes said. "They have been working so hard for over 350 days to get this done and I am just so proud of them."
B-CU 12, Tenn. St. 9: Jackie Wilson's 6-yard pass to Jordan Murphy with 5:01 left in the game was the lone touchdown in the John Merritt Classic and it gave the Wildcats their first victory over the host Tigers since 1987. Werley Cagle kicked two first-quarter field goals for Bethune-Cookman as it took the lead. But after Tennessee State took a 9-6 lead on Jamin Godfey's third field goal, B-CU drove 71 yards for the go-ahead touchdown. Isidore Jackson rushed for 56 yards for B-CU.
FAMU 27, MVSU 10: Damien Fleming, Omari Albert and Al-Terek McBurse ran for touchdowns and the Rattlers had three interceptions against Mississippi Valley State in the SWAC/MEAC challenge in Orlando. Fleming passed for 110 yards and ran for 38 before leaving for good in the third quarter because of leg cramps.
