Heisman watch
5. Washington QB Jake Browning: Enters tonight's huge game against Stanford ranked in the top five nationally in passer rating and touchdowns.
4. Michigan LB/DB Jabrill Peppers: Last week's five tackles aren't gaudy, but a 53-yard punt return showed off his versatility.
3. Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett: Should slice through Rutgers this week to pad a 184.38 passer rating that ranks fifth nationally.
2. Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey: His 211 all-purpose yards per game led Power Five players heading into the Washington game.
1. Louisville QB Lamar Jackson: Sophomore sensation is on pace to account for 75 touchdowns; a strong showing over No. 5 Clemson will make him hard to beat.
Record watch
USF career rushing yards
1. Andre Hall (2004-05): 2,731
2. Marlon Mack (2014-present): 2,637
FSU career rushing yards
1. Warrick Dunn (1993-96): 3,959
2. Greg Allen (1981-84): 3,769
3. Travis Minor (1997-2000): 3,218
4. Dalvin Cook (2014-present): 3,194
Local of week
Clemson RT Jake Fruhmorgen (Plant High): Louisville's defensive front smashed FSU two weeks ago with five sacks; the Cardinals' 15 overall are tied for seventh nationally. Fruhmorgen, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound sophomore, will need to play well for Clemson's offense to keep up with the high-scoring Cardinals.
Eye on the NFL
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson and WR Mike Williams are both likely first-round picks but haven't had a huge test this season. They'll get one against a Louisville defense allowing only 4.8 yards per attempt (tied for No. 4 nationally). Cracking the Cardinals would boost these two Tigers' draft stocks even more.
Quotable
"We might do it. We're going to take it to Florida State."
North Carolina's Bug Howard, when asked by the News & Observer if he and his fellow receivers will be wearing bathrobes during warmups in Tallahassee. Last week against Pitt, a few of the Tar Heel receivers made the pregame fashion statement, saying teams were sleeping on them. We'd be more impressed if they ditched the robes for bunny slippers.
