GAINESVILLE — Florida gymnast Melanie Sinclair has been suspended indefinitely after she was arrested Tuesday on charges of storing firearms, televisions and computers, which police believe were taken in a series of burglaries.
The redshirt senior and nine-time All-American from Orlando was charged with three felony counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling unarmed, larceny theft of less than $5,000 and grand larceny of firearms.
According to a Gainesville Police Department report, nine shotguns/rifles and two computers were recovered from Sinclair's apartment.
Bud Leonard Williams, 21, who police say is Sinclair's boyfriend, was arrested Oct. 1 after reportedly walking through the apartment complex carrying a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, police said. He was charged with 11 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary, theft and theft of a firearm. A second defendant, Jesse Joel Renfro, 22, told police Sinclair was aware the guns were in the apartment and played with them by pointing them around the apartment.
