TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama linebacker Tim Williams has been charged with carrying a pistol without a permit.
Campus police arrested Williams on the misdemeanor charge at about 1 a.m. Thursday in his vehicle in a grocery store parking lot two days before the game with Kentucky.
Court documents show that officers smelled marijuana in Williams' parked car and found a bag containing the drug in the center console and a Glock 41 pistol under the driver's seat.
"This kind of behavior is not condoned in our program," coach Nick Saban said in a statement, adding that the team is "reviewing all of the information."
Williams had 10½ sacks last season without starting a game. He has been starting this season.
QB LEAVES TIDE: Alabama redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett has left the program and withdrawn from school. Coach Nick Saban said he was disappointed in the decision of the five-star recruit from Corona, Calif., who started the opener against USC.
No. 6 HOUSTON 42, UCONN 14: QB Greg Ward accounted for five touchdowns as the Cougars (5-0, 2-0 AAC) avenged last season's upset by the Huskies (2-3, 0-2).
