Fortysomething renaissance in Indy
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis' over-the-hill gang still looks pretty spry. Pretty darn good, too.
With a right shoulder injury keeping Andrew Luck out of an NFL game for the first time, the Colts quarterback saw backup Matt Hasselbeck, 40, and kicker Adam Vinatieri, 42, have a personal throwback day. Hasselbeck led a 53-yard drive in overtime and Vinatieri finished it with a 27-yard field goal to top Jacksonville.
"We kind of hugged it out for a second," Vinatieri said. "Watching (Hasselbeck) have the opportunity to go out there — hate saying 'at his age' because he's younger than I am — but I know he wanted that."
Frank Gore, 32 — not as old as Hasselbeck or Vinatieri but close by running back standards — had 17 carries for 53 yards including a 22-yarder on his final run to get the ball to the Jaguars' 7-yard line.
Jason Myers missed a 53-yard field goal for Jacksonville with 6 seconds left in regulation, got a do-over because the Colts called timeout, and missed again. Then he missed from 48 yards in overtime.
