Hernando out in softball; Spring Hill wins in baseball

The Hernando Dixie softball team was bounced from World Series play in Alexandria, La. on Sunday, and the Spring Hill Nationals Senior baseball team improved to 2-0 with a victory in the second round of its World Series in Covington, Ga.

The Dixie Debs (16-18), who entered the tournament as the state champions, were overwhelmed 16-3 by the host team from Caldwell Parish, La. The Hernando Dixie representative was knocked out of the double-elimination tournament with an 0-2 record.

The Senior Division (13-14) representatives from Spring Hill Dixie defeated Columbus County, Ga., 12-5.

Dante Sollazzo, who relieved starting pitcher David Woop in the first inning, allowed no hits in four innings. Woop made up for his shaky pitching with six RBIs, and Lewis Caliacomo hit his second homer in two games.
