West Pasco team still in title hunt after 3-1 victory

WINTER PARK — West Pasco Little League's hopes for a berth in the World Series continue this weekend after Friday's 3-1 victory over Dr. Phillips (Orlando) in the first round of the state tournament.

Despite a short rain delay in the sixth inning, four pitchers combined to toss a four-hitter. Tyler Hawks (21/3 innings), Joe Vaccarino (11/3), Chris Chiger (one) and Blaize Grabowski (11/3) combined to strike out seven batters. Elliott Desvergnes was one of the big stars at the plate for West Pasco, going 1-for-2 with a home run.

The state tournament is the third tier of the process along to road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.

West Pasco will play two games today. The first pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 11 a.m. against Rockledge. Game 2 will begin approximately at 3 p.m. against Niceville.
