CHICAGO — Former Ray Jason Hammel pitched seven strong innings, and the Cubs held on despite allowing five solo home runs. Hammel won his Chicago debut when he beat the Pirates in Pittsburgh. He got off to another good start in this one, retiring the first 12 until Pedro Alvarez's first of two homers in the game tied it to start the fifth.
