CHICAGO — Antoine Vermette scored at 5:37 of the second overtime, and the Blackhawks beat the Ducks 5-4 on Saturday night to tie the Western Conference final at two games apiece.
Vermette, left out of the lineup Thursday night in Chicago's 2-1 loss in Game 3, was stopped on his first try in front, but stayed with the rebound and shot it over Anaheim goaltender Frederik Andersen for his second goal of playoffs. Patrick Sharp and Teuvo Teravainen got the assists.
Vermette then skated over to the corner and was mobbed by his teammates as the season-high crowd of 22,404 cheered wildly. Game 5 is Monday night in Anaheim.
It was the second time in the series that a game went overtime and the Blackhawks have won both. Of the five games in this postseason that have gone multiple overtimes, Chicago has been in four and won them all (the other was the Lightning's 2-1 double-OT win in Game 1 of its second-round series against Montreal).
The Blackhawks were ahead 3-1 in the third period until the Ducks exploded for three goals in 37 seconds. Corey Perry's goal 9:19 into the period capped the surge and gave Anaheim a 4-3 lead, but Chicago's Patrick Kane scored on a power play 12:39 into the period to tie it again.
