Falcons among best even out West

SAN DIEGO — Few people could have imagined the Falcons coming west and putting this kind of pounding on the Chargers.

These Falcons really can fly.

Not bothered by a short week and a long flight, Atlanta overwhelmed San Diego to become one of three teams off to a 3-0 start. Matt Ryan threw touchdowns to three receivers and safety Thomas DeCoud had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

The Falcons are 6-0 in San Diego all-time and 6-0 on the West Coast in coach Mike Smith's five seasons. And they're 3-0 against the AFC West. They beat the Broncos 27-21 Monday night, then turned their focus to this game.

Smith said the short week and travel "had no effect on us. We've had this success because our guys come out and play good football. There is no magic to it."

Ryan led two long, impressive scoring drives and threw for 275 yards. And despite his first interception of the season, the Falcons extended their league-best turnover differential to plus-10.
