I haven't yet ranked every college football game in the state (as I did last year), but here's a spoiler: Dan Mullen's return to Starkville on Sept. 29 will be very high.
The Florida Gators' new coach hasn't shied away from his Mississippi State homecoming, at least when he was asked about it on his spring speaking tour.
Mullen on playing in Starkville: I don't know if there will ever be a bigger game played in the state of Mississippi, to the people in Mississippi.— Matt Baker (@MBakerTBTimes) May 7, 2018
But how are things being viewed from Mullen's Bulldogs replacement, Joe Moorhead?
"I think certainly there'll be an emotional component to it, with Coach coming back to Starkville and the kids on the team and the fans," Moorhead said last week at the SEC's spring meetings in Destin. "But ultimately at the end of the day, the first quarter will wear on, and it will back to how well we've prepared and how well we're playing on the day. I think it will be an interesting storyline and a good lead-up to the game, but once it kicks off, it will fall back to being just a good old-fashioned SEC game."
