Gators TB Malik Davis has encountered his second major setback in as many seasons.

Coach Dan Mullen announced Monday that Davis, Hillsborough County's all-time leading prep rusher, suffered a broken foot in Saturday's 48-10 triumph against Colorado State and will miss an extended period.

"Not sure on the maximum extent on the period of time yet," Mullen said.

Davis' sparkling freshman season (526 yards) ended when he tore his ACL in the Gators' loss to Georgia. The Jesuit High alumnus had 13 carries for 61 yards this season until going down Saturday.

His injury comes a week after fellow TB Adarius Lemons announced he's transferring. The Gators' tailback options still include veterans Lamical Perine (13 carries, 99 yards) and Jordan Scarlett (19 carries, 105 yards), and promising freshman Dameon Pierce (14 carries, 182 yards), who had a 68-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter Saturday.

"We're all praying for Malik for a speedy recovery," QB Feleipe Franks said. "We definitely have some guys that can step up…so we'll be fine, but it's also a big loss for us."

Elsewhere, Mullen said he's "very opportunistic" LB David Reese (ankle) and DB C.J. McWilliams (unspecified) could return this week.
