Flyers win their 9th in a row

DETROIT — Brayden Schenn scored 2:44 into overtime and Anthony Stolarz got his first shutout in his second career start, lifting the Flyers over the Red Wings 1-0 Sunday for their ninth consecutive win.

Stolarz made 28 saves, helping Philadelphia outlast Jimmy Howard and Detroit. Howard made 34 saves in his first start since Nov. 23.

It's the Flyers' longest streak since winning nine straight in April 1995.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Alex Ovechkin scored a power-play goal in the first and Braden Holtby made it stand up, stopping 20 shots as the host Capitals beat the Canucks 3-0. … Antoine Vermette and Corey Perry each had a goal and an assist as the host Ducks topped the Senators 5-1. … Matt Dumba, Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund scored, Devan Dubnyk made 22 saves and the host Wild held on to beat the Blues 3-1. … J.T. Miller and Brady Skjei scored 3:50 apart late in the second, Antti Raanta stopped 19 shots for his second straight shutout and the Rangers beat the visiting Devils 5-0. … Marian Hossa, Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin scored to lead the Central Division-leading Blackhawks over the visiting Stars 3-1. … Semyon Varlamov made 51 saves, helping the visiting Avalanche beat the Leafs 3-1 and rebound from a 10-1 loss to Montreal on Saturday

AROUND THE LEAGUE: Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki was suspended two games for boarding Kings forward Tyler Toffoli during Saturday's game. … Stars defenseman Jamie Oleksiak was suspended two games for an illegal check to the head of Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde during Saturday's game.
