Coaches quotebook

The Bucs' Raheem Morris:

On the defense: "We played hard as a team. I am just proud of the guys in that locker room. I've got to do a better job coaching this football team."

On his double duty as coach and defensive coordinator: "Of course, I was really rusty, but I have a great staff. … I'm glad those guys were with me (Sunday), and they did a good job."

On why he called a timeout before the final play: "I wanted to see what they were in and what to call. I wanted to talk to my guys and let them know what my mentality was."

On whether the defense took a step forward: "It's never a step forward when you lose."

The Falcons' Mike Smith

On the game: "We overcame six sacks, and we overcame a blocked punt. We tried not to win it, but our guys did a great job in their resolve to play for 60 minutes."

On backup Chris Redman: "I had no doubt he was going to go in there and perform effectively. When the backup quarterback steps in, we don't want the level of play to go down one inch."

On the final play: "We knew what kind of matchup we were going to have. We thought it was a favorable matchup for us. It was an excellent throw and a great catch. It was very good coverage by them. It was a typical play that could go either way. We're sure happy it went our way."
