Detours: a country in search of direction
On the eve of the election, a reporter and photographer set out for Washington, via America. We tell stories from seven towns, touching on seven issues from politics and real life.
Friday Night Rewind It doesn't matter which team you cheer for. We've got video previews of every high school football program in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando County.
Game show themes
These themes are probably going to make some of you have flashbacks to wasted mornings or afternoons spent sprawled in front of the TV.
Even with the NFL draft complete, the Bucs aren't finished tinkering with their roster.
Players with local ties will have a chance to earn an invite to training camp. USF products Amarri Jackson, a receiver, and offensive linemen Walt Walker and Jared Carnes (St. Petersburg Catholic) will participate in this weekend's three-day rookie minicamp.
Jackson had 22 receptions for 256 yards last season. Walker started at guard in all nine games he played, and Carnes had mostly a reserve role for the Bulls.
Also invited are two defenders from Troy, tackle Chris Bradwell and defensive back Elbert Mack. Bradwell transferred from Florida State after his dismissal in 2005 for a marijuana arrest. He had a burglary arrest at Troy.
Boston College tight end Jon Loyte, primarily a blocker who caught 13 passes for 135 yards in 2007, also is invited.
TAYLOR, PARCELLS AT ODDS: A rift seems to have developed between Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor and new executive vice president Bill Parcells.
According to the Miami Herald, Taylor visited team headquarters during a break from filming Dancing With the Stars and popped in on Parcells watching tape. Parcells looked up, then returned to the tape without speaking.
Parcells is unhappy that Taylor has been focused on a Hollywood career, the Herald reported.
OBITUARY: Ed Marion, an NFL official for 28 years and a head linesman in three Super Bowls, died Monday night at his home in Paoli, Pa. He was 81.
TRAVEL BUDGET: The Bills will receive $78-million, more than double their calculated 2006 operating income, to play eight games at Toronto's Rogers Centre over the next five years.
JURISPRUDENCE: Former Titans receiver Tyrone Calico faces indictment on drunken driving charges after a judge in Nashville sent his case to the grand jury.
CHARGERS: Nine-year veteran offensive tackle L.J. Shelton signed a two-year deal.
PANTHERS: Free agent defensive tackle Ian Scott signed.
TEXANS: Offensive lineman Fred Weary agreed in principle to a one-year deal to return.
