TAMPA — The Bucs on Monday moved closer to reaching deals with most of their remaining unsigned draft choices.
Third-rounder Jeremy Zuttah's deal, likely for four years, could be final today. Negotiations were going well Monday afternoon, agent Noel LaMontagne said. Fifth-rounder Josh Johnson's contract might take another day or two but doesn't appear to be a concern. Second-rounder Dexter Jackson's deal might take a bit longer, but one obstacle was eliminated Monday when the players union and league received a ruling on guaranteed salaries that disproportionately affected second-round picks.
First-round pick Aqib Talib is unsigned as well, but so are most of the players picked near him. That makes it difficult to establish a baseline for negotiations.
NICHOLSON ARRESTED: Safety Donte Nicholson, 26, was Tasered twice and arrested early Sunday outside a St. Petersburg nightclub after an altercation with police and off-duty officers working security. Nicholson's friend Torrey Robinson, 31, got into a disagreement with club security, resulting in his arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence, police said. Apparently attempting to intervene, Nicholson had an altercation with officers. Police said he was told to lie down. When Nicholson attempted to get up, officers used a Taser to subdue him, they said. He was booked into the Pinellas County jail for misdemeanor resisting arrest without violence and misdemeanor battery. He was released at 6:50 a.m. Sunday after posting $300 bond. His lawyer, Ron Hanes of Tampa, said the case might be overblown and his client made no threatening moves toward police.
CASE CLOSED: The ex-wife of former Buc Ricky Reynolds agreed to plead guilty to a reduced charge of criminal mischief, closing a case in which she was accused of burning the belongings of her then-estranged husband and his girlfriend in a driveway bonfire. Authorities said Pamela Reynolds returned early from an out-of-town trip last year and found another woman's suitcase in their Dade City home. The luggage belonged to Reynolds' girlfriend, Lori Smith. The Reynolds' divorce was finalized last month.
