TAMPA -- Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Chidi Ahanotu pleaded no contest Tuesday in Hillsborough Circuit Court to violating a domestic violence injunction. He was placed on probation.

In exchange for pleading to the misdemeanor, prosecutors agreed to drop several other charges against Ahanotu, 37, including felony counts of burglary and criminal mischief. The only condition of probation imposed by Hillsborough Circuit Judge Gregory Holder is that Ahanotu have no further contact with the victim, said defense attorney Ralph Fernandez.

Ahanotu received a year's probation from the judge, but Fernandez said it may be subject to early termination.

A former defensive end, Ahanotu last played for the Bucs in 2004. He was charged last year with stalking his ex-fiancee. The woman testified in court earlier this month that he has called her twice since.

Hamilton claimed by Bears: CB Marcus Hamilton made his NFL debut Sunday against the Bears.

Now, he'll be seeing a lot more of them.

The 2007 seventh-round pick who was promoted from the practice squad last week has been claimed off waivers by Chicago on Tuesday.

Hamilton was released this week when he no longer could be accomodated on the active roster. CB Elbert Mack returns this week after a 1-game suspension, and the Bucs are optimistic rookie Aqib Talib (hamstring) will play against Green Bay.

Hamilton played well against the Bears, making several clutch plays in one-on-one coverage.

Ahanotu played for many more years than that for the Bucs. He was a mainstay on the Dugy teams and a clutch player. I'm sorry his life seems to be in a dark place right now. Here's hoping he can forget about this woman and move on with his life.
