TAMPA — Rookie WR Dexter Jackson hasn't lost his job as the primary punt and kickoff returner. It just may not continue to be a full-time gig.
Jackson was not on the field for several kickoff and punt returns Sunday at Chicago, and though he will continue to be used extensively, others will to be used, too.
"No, I'm not really thinking about (a change)," coach Jon Gruden said. "We'll have some other guys that will contribute. Whether Dexter does it exclusively or not will be something we'll decide when the ball is kicked Sunday afternoon. But he's a big part of our plans.
"You've seen Ike (Hilliard) back there (on punts). You've seen (Michael) Clayton back there (on kickoffs). You might see somebody else. But we're going to do it on a situational basis, and we'll have a plan for each return."
Clayton fielded three kickoffs against the Bears, including a long of 29. He had a 38-yard return negated by a holding call in the first quarter. That return would have been the Bucs' longest of the season.
Jackson has averaged 23.1 yards on eight kick returns and 3 yards on 10 punt returns. His longest punt return is 14 yards.
Injury UPDATES: WR Joey Galloway said his foot sprain is "better than last week" but declined to characterize his chances for playing against Green Bay and did not practice Thursday.
"That's Coach's call," he said. "You know the routine."
After missing Sunday's win that was marked by a franchise-high number of passing attempts, Galloway couldn't stop thinking about the irony.
"I joked with (Brian) Griese, and I joked with Coach that they wait until I'm out to throw the ball 67 times," Galloway said. "It's tough when you don't get a chance to play. I'm trying to get there as quickly as possible."
G Davin Joseph (broken foot) practiced again on a limited basis, but he was less active than Wednesday, according to offensive line coach Bill Muir.
FB B.J. Askew (hamstring) did not practice, while LB Derrick Brooks (hamstring) and DT Ryan Sims (groin) were limited.
BRYANT'S BREAKOUT? WR Antonio Bryant is coming off a 10-catch, 138-yard performance and thinks he could be finding his way after missing all of 2007 as the result of a suspension and parts of the preseason because of a knee injury. "I didn't think I would lose much," he said. "I know how to work, and I know that hard work pays off. And I know that there's some things that come with me that most guys don't have. And you can't coach the things that come with me."
